About the Merriwa District Education Foundation
In 2002 a small group of Merriwa residents met with Katie Walker with the view of forming an association for the Merriwa community. A meeting was called and the Merriwa District Education Association was incorporated in November 2002. An initial grant of $5000.00 was received from Graincorp followed by the sale of some stock which was donated. Since 2002 the Merriwa District Education Foundation has advertised the availability of scholarships in the Ringer annually and has been involved in supporting 20 students with their tertiary education pursuits. These awards have ranged from $500 to $1000 depending on the assessment of individual needs. The awards have covered additional training and education costs such as textbooks and accommodation expenses. The additional training that successful Merriwa students have undertaken has ranged from Rural Science, Business/Commerce, Primary Teaching, Horticulture, Sports Management, Medical Science, Asian Studies. Civil Engineering, Business Administration and Communication. The following graph highlights the location of post high school education. The Merriwa District Education Foundation continues to seek ongoing sponsorship to support the local youth seeking additional education and training opportunities. Anyone who would like to contribute can do so online via this LINK or by completing the donation form on the back of this page or alternatively contact one of the committee members. The Foundation acknowledges the generous support already received from community members and organisations. |
